About Lotus Arts

My Exploration of Buddha Nature

With a chain mail glove and a sharpened chisel, my mother would sit at the kitchen table and whittle away the evenings, creating the most amazing works of art.  At the beginning of any project, she would hold her block of wood and caress it, talk to it, listen to it.   She used to tell me, “I am waiting for the wood to tell me what’s inside it, then I will just carve away what is extra”.  The beautiful strips of butternut or aspen, which curled as she skillfully carved them away, floated to the floor.  I have carried that lesson in my head and heart for years now, and with this study, I can finally say that I understand the lesson that she was trying to teach me.

Although I have painted for many years, I have always painted with watercolor.  This collection is not only an exploration of my love of the Buddha, but also, an exploration in acrylic paints.  During the global pandemic, I decided to step into something different.  I visited White Sands Buddhist Temple in Mims, Florida and became inspired to step into the unknown of acrylic painting.

Before beginning each painting, I would talk to my canvas.  I meditated with it; I sent Reiki energy to it, I prayed with it.  When both the canvas and I were ready, without much of a plan, I would open the paints and lay down the abstract background, using whatever technique or texturing device that came to me at that moment; I was free to “throw some paint around”.  It is at this point, when the first background was dry that I listened for the painting to tell me what it was, who it was.  Then I just “carved away” what it was not.

Each Buddha painting is a unique personality, each has its own story, its own lesson.  What do you hear them saying to you?

As an artist, reiki master teacher, ordained minister and mediation teacher in training, I am looking to help with the evolution of our planet during this amazing time of change and awakening.  There are so many people waking up to their own spiritual possibilities that I want this website to be available to my community so that the messages can reach to whom they are intended.

So many amazingly wise people have been crossing my path that I want to honor what they are teaching me by creating this platform

Through positive energy we can change the world.
